Cerebral Palsy

We’re all individuals – so your care should reflect that

We all have our individual goals – and, in turn, we all face our individual challenges.

Our team of Walfinch carers are trained in supporting people with cerebral palsy, meaning they can support you with everyday activities, giving you time to focus on the things that matter most.

However you thrive best, our support can help streamline your day. Watching football, going to the theatre, having a laugh at comedy nights, meeting with friends for coffee, or something else entirely – we don’t want to slow down your life. We want to help you get the most out of it.

There are different degrees of cerebral palsy, which affect people in different ways. For example, someone with cerebral palsy may experience:

  • Muscle tightness and spasms
  • Epilepsy and seizures
  • Difficulty with the use and movement of their limbs
  • Difficulty with communication and speech

As a result, a person with cerebral palsy may struggle with everyday tasks – such as dressing, cooking, travelling and eating. Our carers can support you throughout the day and fit in around your busy schedule.

Your care, designed around you

In order to provide care that works for you, we will first carry out a friendly care assessment at your home. This is so we can meet you in person and gain an understanding of your needs and personal goals.

You may want your family to attend too, so we can meet them – because finding the care provider that’s right for you, is a decision best done together.

Another way in which we help our clients to thrive is promoting at least 10 minutes of activity per one hour visit.

For someone living with cerebral palsy, keeping active and maintaining mobility helps you stay independent. We can work with you to understand your preferred activity and movement, such as supporting with physiotherapy exercises – to help you take control of your health.

It’s different for everyone, but some people with cerebral palsy find receiving care helps with their medication management. This depends on the type of care you choose, but our dedicated carers are trained to support you with dispensing and taking medication – as well as to provide crucial emotional support.

It’s never too early to kickstart your thriving journey. Use your care to take control back over your life and your health – and we can navigate these uncertain times together.

We don’t see care as the end – it’s just the next chapter. Some of our clients have found that just four hours of care a week has provided transformative results. It’s never been easier to live better for longer.

Through various techniques and approaches to care, tailored around your lifestyle and goals, you can make now your time to thrive.

Expert answers to your frequently asked questions about cerebral palsy care.

Cerebral palsy refers to a group of lifelong conditions that affect movement and co-ordination, amongst other things. People can still lead a thriving life with cerebral palsy, and our carers are specifically trained to help our clients get the most out of their days.

It depends entirely on your situation. If you feel you or your loved one require round-the-clock support, then we can make that happen. Some of our other clients with cerebral palsy prefer regular, shorter visits. It’s your care, on your terms.

Someone with cerebral palsy might benefit from care, as the condition can make certain everyday tasks difficult. For example, travelling to places, washing, eating and dressing may prove challenging to them. Other clients, may also need support with managing medications – which is another way in which Walfinch can help.

We train our carers in-house, the Walfinch way. They undergo comprehensive training so that they can care for people with a wide range of needs. We have very high training standards – meaning our carers must pass a series of in-person examinations, training sessions and online learning before helping people in their own homes.

A care plan is a document which we write up and regularly update. It contains all the relevant information our carers need to understand and cater to your individual needs. It is created off the back of care assessments, which may be carried out on an ongoing basis, to ensure all your information and requirements are up to date. We view your care plan as your roadmap to thrive!
