Overnight Care

What is overnight care?

Overnight care is when a carer stays overnight to assist with any care needs you may have.

It’s designed for people who may have disrupted sleep, have additional needs throughout the night, or require ongoing support. One of our Walfinch carers can provide health-related support, as well as companionship care – helping both you and your loved ones to rest easy.

Why should thriving be constrained to 9-5? With Walfinch’s expert overnight care, you can get the most out of your days and nights. Someone may be suited to overnight care because they need:

  • Support with a condition
  • Support with disrupted sleep
  • Round-the-clock reassurance
  • Emotional support
  • Mobility support to prevent falls
  • Personal care at all times

Getting support with some or all of the above, can be your first step to gaining greater independence – all fitting around your schedule.

Beyond your health-related support, we can provide both you and your family with emotional reassurance. We understand how hard it can be to live with a chronic or progressive condition – and late at night is when people worry the most. Win back your comfort and take your wellbeing back into your own hands.

If you like to start your morning routine earlier than others, our Walfinch carers can stay all night – and be ready to seize the day with you. We believe care should fit you, not the other way around. That’s why we offer overnight care – so even when the day ends, your thriving doesn’t have to.

Often, someone who has overnight care already uses live-in care – but that’s not always the case. Overnight care can be personalised to you and your needs. Some people choose overnight care without having a live-in carer.

If you or your loved one has dementia, receiving overnight care can be really valuable. Many people living with dementia experience restlessness during the night, as the disease affects the body’s natural cycles of sleeping and waking. As a result, a person with dementia could wake and begin to feel vulnerable, disoriented and confused during the night.

This can pose a risk to their safety and wellbeing, as other family members, neighbours and friends are usually asleep.  Having  an overnight carer on hand to help when needed can dramatically reduce the stress and anxiety of both the client and their family – helping them to stay happy, comfortable and thriving throughout the night.

Many people think that if you are experiencing disrupted sleep due to dementia or require ongoing assistance throughout the night, you can no longer stay at home. The assumption has always been that, even if the days are manageable, care throughout the night requires you to be moved to a residential home.

That simply isn’t true! We believe people thrive best where they are most comfortable. Especially if you or your loved one is experiencing disorientation or confusion, moving into unfamiliar surroundings can have a huge effect.

With overnight care, we bring our expertise to you – providing care which is un-intrusive, dependable and bound to make a positive impact on your lifestyle.

Some of our clients living with dementia really value overnight care – as it helps put both their and their families’ minds at ease.

Often, someone who receives overnight care also receives live-in care – but this is not always the case. Live-in care refers to a carer living in with you or your loved one, to provide round-the-clock support. Overnight care refers to a carer staying overnight at your or your loved ones’ home.

Absolutely! Our carers are specially trained to help you get more out of your days and nights. We honour your nuanced routines, to make your support as straightforward as possible. At Walfinch, we believe your care should fit you, not the other way around.

We train our carers in-house, the Walfinch way. They undergo comprehensive and specialist training so that they can care for people with a wide range of needs. We have very high standards regarding training – meaning our carers must pass a series of in-person examinations, training sessions and online learning before helping people in their own homes.

A care plan contains all the relevant information our carers need to understand and cater to your individual needs. It is created off the back of care assessments, which may be carried out on an ongoing basis, to ensure all your information and requirements are up to date. We view your care plan as your roadmap to thrive.
