What is respite care?
Respite care (also called ‘temporary respite care’) provides your usual care giver with some time away from their role.
In some cases, they may also be family members or loved ones – this gives them the chance to get back to spending time with you, in a non-professional capacity. Temporary respite care ensures you are receiving high-quality care, whilst also taking the pressure off the ones you love most. This puts your care and your health back into your own hands.

When your care gives back
Respite care often:
- Is a temporary form of care
- Helps full-time carers make their own time to thrive
- Takes the pressure off full-time carers
- Ensures you are still receiving high-quality care, designed to help you thrive
- Is an effective solution to covering full-time carers during the holidays
- Can be live-in care or regular, shorter visits
Knowing that someone was coming to see me every day whilst my daughter was on holiday made me feel relaxed and confident… My carer was a friendly delightful companion and I looked forward to seeing her every day… I am glad that this care was arranged and I really enjoyed the time spent with these ladies.

Why respite care is important
Family care givers don’t often get much time to themselves. It can be hard for them to ask for help or a break. But a small breather can make a world of difference, giving them the time to thrive.
Your care giver can relax with the reassurance that your health needs are being handled effectively, compassionately, and professionally.
Meet the professionals, ready to help you to thrive
Nobody knows you better than your usual, family care giver. But we can work together to introduce you to the professionals who are trained to provide outstanding support – matching you on interests, personality and taking your own preferences into account.
If you want, your usual care giver can also get involved in choosing which members of our care team are best suited to you.

Thrive in your own home – and out
At Walfinch, we believe that receiving home care doesn’t have to mean staying at home. Instead, we’re redefining home care as care that is tailored to your individual lifestyle, helping you to do the things that make you feel “at home”. For you, that just may be having the freedom to stay in your own house, instead of being referred to a care home.
Live life on your own terms and continue doing the activities that help you to thrive; our Walfinch care team have your preferences in mind, always. Experience the satisfaction of receiving personalised, flexible, professional care, all while giving your usual care giver a valuable rest – so they can return energised and ready to resume their role!
We provide care you can trust
Having to organise respite care can feel overwhelming at first – especially when you’re so used to your usual routine.
That’s why we pride ourselves on keeping your care as un-intrusive and considerate as possible, by maintaining routines and matching you with carers who have the skills to help you to thrive.
